The Root Cause Psychology Has Never Named

For over a hundred years, modern psychology has been trying to fix the human mind. Billions of dollars spent. Countless therapy hours logged. An entire industry built around understanding why people suffer and what to do about it. People have been consuming antidepressants for decades and are more anxious, more depressed, and more medicated than ever. In 2022, a comprehensive umbrella review published in Molecular Psychiatry found no consistent evidence that depression is caused by low serotonin levels, directly challenging the foundational premise behind every SSRI prescription written in the last fifty years. The main areas of serotonin research provided no consistent evidence of an association between serotonin and depression, and no support for the hypothesis that depression is caused by lowered serotonin activity or concentrations. The framework was not working. The numbers show it. The research confirms it. Moncrieff, J. et al. (2022). "The serotonin theory of depression: a systematic umbrella review of the evidence." The Problem Is Not the Brain
Psychology has spent a century focused on the brain, the nervous system, childhood experiences, and behavioral patterns. Those things matter. But they are the surface layer of something far deeper. Treating a person's symptoms without addressing the structure underneath is like pulling the check engine light out of the dashboard because it is annoying instead of looking at what is actually happening under the hood. The symptom disappears. The problem does not.
What has been consistently left out of the clinical conversation is the one thing that makes the rest of it make sense. The soul. The original Self. The consciousness that existed before the first wound told it who it had to become to survive.
We are not physical bodies trying to feel spiritual. We are spiritual beings moving through a human experience. Until psychology accounts for that, it will keep producing people who can cope but cannot heal.
How the Fracture Begins
The break does not happen randomly. It follows a precise and predictable sequence.
The Q-Staff Event is the orienting moment. It is the point in childhood when something happened, neglect, abuse, rejection, abandonment, or simply being invisible, and the young psyche drew a conclusion it was not equipped to question. "Something is wrong with who I am." To survive, the Self began to adapt. Masks formed. Performance replaced authenticity. The entire way of perceiving reality bent around that original conclusion and every experience that followed was filtered through it.
This is not a metaphor. It is a structural event with structural consequences. And it is the origin of every loop a person will spend their adult life trying to break.
What the Six States Reveal
The Six-State Model of Selfhood shows the complete architecture of the Self, including the parts that get buried, the parts that perform, the parts that fracture under relational pressure, and the part that has been observing all of it without ever being touched by any of it.
It also shows how every state seeks what it needs through relationship. Consciousness can only see itself in the reflection of another. This is why the same dynamics keep appearing in different relationships with different people. The pattern is not about the other person. It is about the state that is looking for resolution.
When the architecture is understood, the pattern finally has a reason to stop.
What Comes Next
F.E.A.R. Foundations: The Six-State Model of Selfhood is the entry point into this framework. It introduces every state, maps the architecture of the Self, and gives you the foundation to understand not just what happened to you but why it made complete structural sense that it did.
This is not therapy. It is not another coping strategy. It is the root cause, named and mapped.
